Summer Length

Summer break has just ended, and many students, including myself, are upset that school starts before August.

GHS started on July 30th, ending the summer fun for Greenwood students. With only two full months of summer, I felt like I had missed out on many things.

This summer break was one of the best I have ever had, even though it felt cut short. I had football early in the mornings on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with the occasional scrimmage on a Friday or Saturday. After practice, I would hang out with friends every day and go out to eat for lunch and to the pool after.

Greenwood started on the July 30, while other schools, such as Center Grove, started on Aug.6. However, Center Grove got let out for Summer Break a few days after Greenwood did, but I think that every school should get out around the same time instead of days in between. Other schools, like Indian Creek started on Aug.1. Schools like Perry Meridian started before Greenwood, as they went back to school on the July 24.

Even with the different school schedules, I believe that summer is being cut short for a number of students and should go back to a three month summer with only one week breaks in between. Summer means a lot too many students, whether it’s a kid just starting middle school or high school, Summer Break helps them prepare for it. Plus, longer summers would benefit more students than not because of all the summer sport practices during the break.
