The time I almost destroyed a mailbox
I had my hands on the wheel, barely going over 10mph.
I had been begging my mom to take me driving around our neighborhood for about six months until my sister was sick of my complaining and decided to take me driving. I was very excited. I grabbed the keys and put my shoes on rather quickly. I ran straight to the car and got inside.
My sister told me to put the key in the ignition and to put the car in reverse. I slowly backed out of the driveway. I was literally shaking and so scared and excited at the same time.
I backed out far enough to put the car into drive. My sister told me to turn around the car to get out of the court. When I was turning the car around to get out of the court, I heard a loud thump.
Apparently, I wasn’t paying attention, and I hit my neighbor’s mailbox. Thankfully, I didn’t knock it down, but I did slant it a little bit.
My sister told me to get out of the car while she parked it. While she was parking the car back into the driveway, I went to my neighbor’s house and knocked on their door. When they answered, I was so scared to tell them that I ran into their mailbox. I was afraid they would sue me or something. But when I told her that I was just learning how to drive, they said it was okay. She said that as long as her mailbox wasn’t destroyed it was fine.
I learned to pay attention more when I’m driving and to my surroundings. I will be very cautious next time.
I don’t know if I will be driving anytime soon, at least until I get my permit.
