Last Thursday, the band and choir held a holiday benefit concert with performances from both the band and choir along with a meal.
“Doors opened around 5:45 p.m. for guests, but the dinner did not begin until 6:30 p.m. We had turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls, corn and, most importantly, dessert,” junior Hunter Gray said.
The entire choir along with the band’s symphonic and wind ensemble performed.
“We got into the holiday spirit by singing several Christmas classics. Some of the songs we performed were Ding Dong, Silent Night, Carol of the Bells, The Work of Christmas and Still Still. There were also others that we played,” sophomore Abigail Alfrey said.
At the concert, guests could purchase wreaths and gift cards as well as participate in a raffle. After the concert, they could pick up fundraiser flowers. Tickets for both the dinner and concert cost $15, and tickets for the concert only were $5.
“We had some Christmas medleys and mashups that we performed, and during the concert there was a raffle going on with gifts to buy,” Gray said.
Both the choir and band enjoyed spreading their holiday cheer while raising money for a good cause. Proceeds from the music concert will be used to purchase Christmas toys for local, needy children.
“I was excited for my friends and family to come and see me perform. It was a fun night, and I’m glad there was a big crowd,” Alfrey said.
