GHS volleyball vs Martinsville
As the gym starts to fill up with excited fans and parents, the volleyball team does not seem to notice. At this point, they are used to it. But across the gym Tuesday night will be rival Martinsville, looking to serve the Lady Woodmen another loss.
The Lady Woodmen volleyball team has had a rough year. After finishing last season 18- 13, the Lady Woodmen already have a 3- 8 record this season. Led by seniors Camryn LaMonaca, Emily Struewing and Brittany Shellist, they look to finish strong with a win against rival Martinsville.
Last season, they beat Martinsville 3:2. They look for the same result this year.
“Last season we beat them in a close match. Hopefully, we beat them in straight sets. I would not like another close match against them because I know they will be ready after last season,” LaMonaca said.
One of the players who hopes to be difference in the match this year is senior Emily Struewing. Struewing has 48 kills on the season and is averaging 1.5 kills per match.
“I hope to have a solid performance against Martinsville. I want to contribute what I can do to help give my team the win. This is a team game, and it is important for me to be a team player,” Struewing said.
Another X factor in the match will be the play of sophomore Lawson Roberts. Roberts has played in all 33 sets this season.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be able to play with a talented group of seniors. I am lucky for this opportunity and do not want to let them down. I think all the years of travel volleyball has really helped me get ready for the varsity level,” Roberts said.
