Lady Woodmen look to continue success against Knightstown
Fans and parents pack the stands as the starting lineup for the Lady Woodmen soccer team is introduced. The players try not to smile as they lock in for the match but smile anyways. When the whistle blows, it is game time.
The Lady Woodmen are off to a hot start. They are 5-0 and out scoring their opponents by a combined score of 33-1, with the only goal belonging to rival Whiteland. Led by senior Taylor Neely and juniors Kayla Rance and Maddy Moan, the Lady Woodmen look to continue their success when they play Knightstown.
Last season, the Lady Woodmen beat the Panthers of Knightstown 10-1. This year they look to play better and be a more dominant team than they were last season.
“Last year we beat them (Knightstown) pretty badly because we beat them 10-1. The one thing that sticks out to me from last season that I hope to fix is the one goal I gave up,” goal keeper Moan said.
One of the keys to the game on Saturday will be the performance of junior super star Kayla Rance. Rance has 10 goals on the season
“I look to play well. I hope to go out there and play my best and help my team win. I know what I am capable of scoring wise but I also know it is important to be a great team player,” mid-fielder Rance said.
Another key to the game will be the way the team is led on the field. Captain Neely, looks to help lead her team’s success against Knightstown. Neely has nine goals this season.
“Team work is vital to our success on the field as it is in any sport. Lucky for us, most of the players came back this season, and that has really helped with team chemistry. My goal is that we will go out and just dominant Knightstown together as a team,” Neely said.
