Freshmen Football Recap

Although they have fewer than 20 players, the freshman football team is getting better week by week.

They will look to bounce back from their 0-2 start and hopefully get a win against Martinsville this Saturday. They fought hard in a competitive Week One game against Perry Meridian. Last week, they combined with the sophomores to take on Indian Creeks JV team where they lost 22-6. Freshman year is always about preparing for the next level. These guys fight through the adversity of not always getting the most reps in practice or not always playing as much all for one goal of getting better.

“Last week, the game was pretty competitive and tough. We could not really move the ball down field very well, but our defense played amazing,” freshman Luke Raker wide receiver, and defensive back said.

This week, the freshmen will look to improve on mistakes made in previous weeks. In the first game against Perry Meridian, freshman Oliver Rau found freshmen wide receivers Bryce Hoffman and Luke Raker for multiple connections. The freshman class as a whole has a lot of potential in the years to come.

“Freshman football is a lot of fun, but it is pretty tiring with playing on both sides of the ball,” quarterback Oliver Rau said.
