The year of “stay-cations”

With Spring Break starting tomorrow, a lot of families will take a week or two to go on vacation. While that may be appealing, there are a ton of fun things to do in the Midwest that can be done in just one day.

The City Museum in St. Louis is an amazing place to spend the day. It is like a massive jungle gym.

“There’s a shoelace factory inside and little slides and tunnels all over the place. There’s things to climb on and playgrounds on every floor. I’m pretty sure it’s four floors, and there’s a playground on the roof. There’s an outdoor ball pit,” junior Grace Taylor said.

The City Museum is almost four hours away so anyone interested in going would have to schedule in drive time.

“It is a far drive, but there’s a lot to do around St. Louis so you could definitely fill up a couple of days there, but if you’re just going to the museum, that’s just a one day thing,” Taylor said.

Anyone who’s been on a day trip knows that the company is just as important as the destination is.

“I think it would be so fun to go with a big group of friends. I think that the more people there are, the more fun it is. Obviously, it would be fun to go with my family, too, but I think my friends and I would have more fun,” Taylor said.

Another fun place to go for the day would be the Indiana Dunes which is a beach on Lake Michigan.

“It’s such a wonderful place. The view is amazing. There’s one spot where you can stand on the top of the dunes and look into the lake. The sand is so warm on super sunny days,” Junior Lilly Condon said.

The view is beautiful, but there is more to do than just look at the lake. It is a little bit closer to Greenwood, it is about 2 hours and 50 minutes away. So still a little bit of a drive, but not unmanageable.

“It is a fun place, and there’s a hiking trail I love to explore. I’d love to go with one or two of my close friends, and we could run around on the dunes and swim,” Condon said.
